The L.A. LEGGERS board of directors is an all-volunteer body that oversees all aspects of the club. Elections take place each spring, and board members each serve a two-year term. Thank you to the always-talented Loc Tran for taking the majority of 2016-17 Board Member photos!
This is Suzanne’s 7th year with the Leggers. She has completed 2 full marathons, 1 half marathon and a number of 5ks. She is the mentor for the 17 walkers. This is her fourth year on the board and second term as President.
Barry says: This is my fifth season with the LA LEGGERS. Over the past seasons, the club has not only help me grow as an endurance athlete but also in other parts of my life. I am now a USATF and RRCA Level 1 Coach thanks in big part to the encouragement and guidance I received from my fellow LEGGERS. This season, I will serve the club as Vice President, Marathon Chair as well as help provide Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday options for midweek training through the LEGGERS association with sister clubs in Southern California.
Liz has been a member of the L.A. LEGGERS for more than a decade, as a mentor for the 12 pace group and head mentor for the 12.5s. Liz has completed 18 marathons and 32 half marathons in various states. Recently, she completed the Nautica Malibu Triathlon, her first open water competition.
As CFO, Mentor Coordinator and multi-year Board member of L.A. LEGGERS, Coach Bill has years of experience with beginners, intermediates, and advanced runners.
A member of Leggers since 1994, Maria has served on and off the Board for many years. She was President of the Leggers in 2001-2002 and has also served as President-elect (currently called VP), Secretary and Treasurer at various times. She has been a mentor since the inception of the mentor program, first as the mentor for the Walkers group when there were only 8 walkers in Leggers and now as the mentor for the 13 Walkers.
Zoila joined the L.A. LEGGERS in 1990, during the club's second season. She has completed 90 full marathons, including 26 consecutive LA Marathons. After all these years, finishing her first marathon is still her proudest moment as a Legger. She joined the board because she wants to give back to the club and help other people achieve their fitness goals.
Legger since 2001. I run a lot. Introduce yourself to me and say hi.
Alicia joined the L.A. LEGGERS in 2013 and ran her first marathon, LA, in 2014. Her passion for health, fitness, women empowerment and finding a cure for Pancreatic Cancer lead me to complete two marathons. "I wouldn't have been able to make it through either one without the L.A. LEGGERS. When you see me, say hi, I give hugs!"
Dave had been a sporadic member of the Leggers over a period of 10 years, during which time he completed four LA Marathons. In total, he has completed over 12 marathons. He joined the board because he wants to give back to the organization from which he has received so much personal benefit.
Hallie says: "I have always enjoyed my time and training with the Leggers and recommend this group to anyone I meet interested in running and community. I'm a very active individual with a lot of interest but running has always been my go-to exercise and therapy." She has been participating in distance events for the past 15 years.
Anita joined in 1999 after cheering on her older brother at the LA Marathon and seeing what a great group of people the L.A. LEGGERS were. Anita has since completed 24 marathons and 46 half marathons. She loves collecting medals and a cold post-race beer, but mainly time spent with fellow runners. She is enthusiastic about her second year on the Board.
Netty has completed 9 marathons, 3 years as a mentor, first year head mentor. 2nd season on Board. Passionate in helping others. Truly believes in club.
New venture: volunteering to be a Visually Impaired Marathon guide runner.
This is my third full season as a Legger and second season with the Board. I joined the L.A. LEGGERS becuase I knew that I needed a group to motivate me to get out and run. The Leggers helped me complete my first full marathon in 2014, and hopefully, many more to come. I look forward to helping the organization and making this season the best one yet!
Becky joined the L.A. LEGGERS Board after a jubilant inaugural season training for her first LA Marathon. With just three marathons, three half marathons and a 10k somewhere under her belt, she tries not to get intimidated by the double-digit race records other Leggers nonchalantly spout off. She thanks/ blames her Dad, a Legger alum, for her insatiable appetite for running.
This is Linda's fourth season with the L.A. LEGGERS and her second season on the Board. She completed the LA Marathon in 2010 prior to joining the Leggers and was planning to run it again in 2015 until she fell and fractured her arm on a training run shortly before the marathon. Since joining the Leggers, she has run 7 half marathons, several 10ks and 5ks, and one 10-mile international race from Paris to Versailles. Thanks largely to the attrition of runners in her age group, she has won her age group in three 10ks. Linda loves the support and encouragement Leggers offer each other, the friends she has made and the feeling of being part of a community. She was honored to be named Volunteer of the Year for the 2014-15 season, and is looking forward to continuing to give back to the Leggers as a member of the Board.
